What are Employability Vetting Checks?
Employability checks are pre-employment screening processes used to verify a candidate’s identity, legal working status and overall suitability for the role. These checks help employers make informed hiring decisions, reduce risk and ensure compliance with legal requirements. We have four packages, essential insight, financial insight, professional insight and 360 degrees insight. They all require Identity, Right to Work and criminal record checks.
Identity verification ensures the candidate is who they claim to be, forming the foundation of a secure and compliant screening process. Key checks include photo identification, such as a passport, identifying name and date of birth with verification that it is a true copy.
A Right to Work (RTW) check confirms that an individual is legally permitted to work in the UK. It is a legal requirement for all employers to carry out these checks before hiring. Failure to comply can result in significant fines and penalties. Conducting RTW checks helps protect your organisation from employing individuals who do not have legal working status.
A basic criminal record check reveals any unspent convictions or conditional cautions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Under this legislation convictions become “spent” after a defined rehabilitation period. Once spent, they are no longer disclosed in a basic check. The length of the rehabilitation period depends on the nature of offence. This system supports fair opportunities while still allowing employers to assess relevant risks.
