Here is our Q&A to help you to understand Digital Identity Verification.

Digital scan of a person with a figure of a person from shoulders up and codes next to it.

Digital Identity Verification (DIV) with Yoti allows Security & Vetting Solutions Ltd (SVS) to confirm your identity securely and efficiently. Whether you are starting a new job, completing a DBS check or providing your Right to Work in the UK, this digital process is faster, safer and fully compliant with UK Government standards.

Why have I been asked to share my ID with SVS?

SVS requires identity verification to meet legal and regulatory requirements. Therefore, you may have been asked to verify your identity for:

  • A new employer
  • A Criminal Record (DBS) Check
  • Proof of your Right to Work in the UK

As a result, using Yoti helps improve accuracy while significantly reducing delays.

Why am I being asked to use an app or QR code?

SVS has partnered with Yoti, a UKAS-accredited digital identity provider, as well as the Post Office. Consequently, you can choose the method that suits you best:

  • Yoti mobile app
  • Secure web-based verification
  • In-branch Post Office verification

The flexibility ensures the process is both accessible and convinient.

What is Yoti?

Yoti is a global leader in digital identity verification. It enables individuals to prove who they are securely, both online and in person. Importantly, Yoti operates under strict UK Government and UKAS regulations and undergoes regular independent audits to maintain compliance and security.

What personal information is collected and why?

During verification, Yoti, will ask you to scan:

  • A valid photo ID
  • Proof of current address (where required)

This information is used to confirm your identity and Right to Work status.

How will my data be treated?

SVS treats data protection as a top priority. Therefore:

  • Your data is used only with explicit consent
  • SVS shares only the minimum information required
  • All data is handled securely and confidentially

For further details, please refer to the SVS Data Protection Statement.

How can I delete my data?

You can delete your data from the Yoti app at any time. However:

  • Identity verification records ate retained for up to 6 months
  • DBS-related identity records are stored for up to 2 years, as required by the Disclosure & Barring Service.

If you wish to request earlier deletion, you should contact SVS directly.

Who can access my data?

You remain in control of your data at all times. In addition:

  • AI verified most documents automatically
  • AI trained verification specialist may review documents if needed
  • All reviews happen in a secure, controlled environment

Therefore no one can access, store or share your data without your permission.

What happens during verification?

During the process, you will:

  • Take a live photo of your ID
  • Complete a quick face scan using your phone or webcam.

Yoti then compares your face scan with your ID using advanced AI. As a result, the system confirms both your identity and authenticity of your document.

What counts as acceptable ID?

You must use a government-approved photo ID, such as:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • National identity card

Yoti accepts documents from over 200 countries. For more information, see DBS digital identity verification guidance on GOV.UK

How does Yoti check document validity?

Yoti uses several verification methods, including:

  • Checking security features (such as, holograms, barcodes and MRZs)
  • Validating document numbers against trusted data sources
  • Reading NFC data from ePassports

Ultimately, this layered approach helps prevent fraud and document tampering.

What if I do not have a webcam?

You can easily switch to your mobile phone. Simply scan the QR code and follow the instructions. Once complete, you will be redirected automatically.

I cannot get a clear photo. What should I do?

For best results:

  • Use a well-lit environment
  • Clean your camera lens
  • Avoid a glare or blur
  • Capture the entire document

If problems persist, using a mobile phone often produces better results than a laptop camera.

How long does Digital Identity Verification take?

The process usually takes just a few minutes. IN most cases, results are returned almost immediate.

What happens after I have scanned my ID?

Once submitted, Yoti checks your ID and notifies you when verification is complete.

Can I upload an existing image of my ID?

No. The law requires a live image of your original document. However, you can pause the process and return to it later if needed.

Why was my ID rejected?

Most rejections occur due to image quality. Therefore, ensure that:

  • The image is sharp and clear
  • The document is fully visible
  • Your hands do not cover any details

What happens if my ID appears fraudulent?

If fraud is suspected, Yoti may retain the document and share relevant information with law enforcements and anti-fraud authorities, as required by law.

How does a face scan work?

Yoti uses liveness detection technology to confirmed that you are a real person, not a photo, mask or bot. Afterward, the system compares your live image with your ID photo to complete the verification process.
