What is PVG Disclosure Scotland?
The Protecting vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme in Scotland, which is managed by Disclosure Scotland requires a mandatory 5-year membership scheme from the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. It is for individuals doing regulated work with children or protected adults. It ensures only suitable people work with vulnerable groups by vetting criminal records, conducting continuous monitoring, and barring unsuitable individuals.
If you are an accredited body with Disclosure Scotland and you are unsure which PVG scheme members you are linked with, we can provide you with a record of PVG scheme members that your organisation is linked to. We will just need you to provide your counter signatory and accredited body codes.
Common roles for PVG Disclosure Scotland screening
- Charities & youth work (mentors, coaches, volunteers in regulated activity)
- Social services & fostering (social workers, fostering/adoption roles)
- Education & childcare (teachers, classroom assistants, early years)
- Roles supervising children and protected adults.
- Health & social care (NHS staff, careers, support workers)

Our PVG Disclosure Scotland check service
Disclosure Scotland updates the record if new information arises. Anyone who joins the PVG scheme will be enrolled in a five-year membership for the type of regulated role they have. The five-year membership model requires a renewal every five years. This would be primarily made through your online account with us; however, an offline process will also be available if required. Continuous Monitoring: Unlike traditional checks, the PVG scheme notifies employers if a member’s record is updated with new vetting information.
