Security background check FAQs
What documents might a candidate need to provide?
Identity, e.g. a passport, birth certificate, or driving licence. Right to Work documentation, e.g. a UK or Irish passport, visa or BRP. Proof of address documents, e.g. utility bill, council tax, bank statement. SIA licence. Employment-related documents, e.g., payslips, PAYE tax records, and contact details for past employers. Educational documents, if less than 5 years of employment history due to education, e.g. certificates.
What if a candidate has lived outside the UK?
Overseas employment and address history must still be verified. This may require additional documentation, such as international references. We recommend an international criminal record check be conducted for any candidate who has spent a period of time greater than 6 months outside of the UK.
What is Limited Screening?
Limited Screening, previously called Conditional Screening, is an accelerated, partial version of BS7858 vetting that allows employees to start work before full BS7858 security screening is completed and fully complies with the BS7858 standard. Once Limited Screening is complete, the employer can offer conditional employment, meaning the candidate can start working on the condition that full BS7858 screening is fully completed within 12 weeks.
What is ASC accreditation?
The SIA Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) is a voluntary accreditation system in the UK managed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It serves as a quality benchmark for private security providers, demonstrating that a company has undergone independent assessment and met high standards of operational and performance competence, including their vetting processes.
